  • Sail With Me

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

So I finally started writing something. After about two hours of having this page up ready to write a new post. As I do everynight. Well everynight that I’m home. Tis my routine. Go to bed. Blog. Check all my various accounts, Twitter, email, gmail etcetc. (Just thought I’d add a little bit about Routine as that’s this months blog topic for NaBloPoMo, of which I’m on the blogroll for. Challenge is to post a blog everyday! I’ve only missed one! Twas the day of the Knightshade larp so I’m not too fussed xD)

Anywho. Was this afternoon singing loudly to Senses Fail – Rum Is For Drinking Not Burning, and tweeting the chorus (Sail with me, into the setting sun, the battle has been won, but war has just begun, and as we grow, emotions start to die, we need to find a way, just to keep our desires alive). Sparked a comment that I’m not a damsel. Which indeed I’m not. Young, beautiful, sure. But I’m not the type of girl who would sit waiting in a dire predicament, for a knight in shining armour, Rob Pattinson, or other such hero, to come to my rescue. I’d rescue myself, goddammit. Those stories always annoy me. You can see the stupid girl getting herself into the predicament, then it’s oh no, poor me, I need a hero! Rescue me! Or, they’re locked in a tower, and it doesn’t occur to them to just jump out the window. Might break something but hey, these things heal!

Lol. Anyway. Most stories like that, and nursery rhymes, just annoy me.

Whilst singing loudly to that song, and midway through tweeting the chorus, my physics theory teacher rang me. I’d just emailed him, asking if he’d got my work, and if he’d sent any more. (Not included was the fact that I sent those booklets off ages ago and just want some fuckn physics theory to do because it’s the most important subject I’m taking ffs!) Anyway, he rang, and he’s all like “It’s Matua (sp?) C**** here,” and I’m like Matua? What? I now think it may mean teacher? Or something. I dunno. “Your physics theory teacher” Ohhhh. “You just emailed me.” Yeah. “About blah blah” Yeah, I know… Lol. Well he was actually just marking my work then. I don’t know if I believe him, pretty big coincidence, but then I am a skeptic lol. And he was ordering the next 7 booklets for me. 1 booklet is like 2 weeks work. So that made me pretty happy. And some unit standards. Because I’m working through it really well. Damn straight I am! The teachers always sound like amazed that I’m getting through everything so quickly. Makes me laugh. There should be a note on my student file. AWESOME. Because I am. Lol.

Then my Calc teacher emailed me back, saying she sent me Conics last year. Yeah, I know, but I don’t have it now! Can I has new pack plez? Lol not quite. So more calc work on its way. Asked my form teacher to enrol me in Year 10 Latin. I’m half a booklet (2-3 days) work away from finishing the Year 9 course. Barbillus just got speared in the shoulder by one of the slaves! Haha. All because he didn’t listen to his astrologer and wanted to go hunting crocs with Quintus. Silly slave woke up a hippo which overturned the boat. Hehe.

I’m a supervillainess! Ruby Lass. And I have a loyal sidekick! Um. I’ll get back with a name. (It’s Dave [dragnew]) But he’s all a-flutter from a slight swish of a cape and glance at an evil weapon, so we’ll see how that goes.. xP

Convinced my mum to buy me Passion Pop. That’s an extra $6 I can put on my heels that are on layby. Woop. Feel almost kinda bad though. I told her that I had rung up about a job and left a message.. I really didn’t though. I don’t wanna apply for it. And I feel bad for lying but she was being all nazi and controlling about it and I knew I’d get in heaps of shit, so I just told a little white lie. Probably most likely to have not got the job anyway so what does it really matter? But yeah, she told me that I was a good girl, and that she was buying me the Passion Pop because I’d rung.. Ha.. Hmmm.

I think I might be getting sick. I feel yuck. Have taking some panadol and drinking lots of water so should feel better in the morning I hope. I don’t wanna get sick. I have been feeling a bit blah on and off but it hasn’t amounted to anything.

Feeling a bit crappy mood-wise. Family shit again. More specific my sister. But talking to mates has been helping to distract me muchly.

Big thank you to anyone reading my blog! I think I must be getting better at blogging, as my stats graph is increasing!! As are my views! Yay!

  • Skating Down a Roller Coaster

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

This crazy person decided it would be a good idea to skate down a 860 metre long roller coaster … in just 60 seconds. During the process he acheived a top speed of 90 km/h.

    Skating Down a Roller Coaster

His average speed can be calculated according to the formula:

    speed = distance ÷ time

So, after covering the 860 metres in 60 seconds, we can calculate that he was travelling at 14.3 m/s, or 51.6 km/h on average ….. FAST !!!

  • I want…

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

to have a thirst for knowledge.  To know something just for the sake of knowing it.  Just interesting stuff.  Stuff that I never plan on ever using in a ‘job’, ever!  Cool scientific stuff.  Like Richard Dawkins, so I can write a book full of random useless information that will never help anybody.  Haha, no seriously, heaps of cool stuff like he knows.  He knows heaps of random useless cool stuff.  Like him.

This is the only time you will ever hear me say I want to be like Richard Dawkins.  I assure you ;)

But seriously, there is so much cool stuff to learn, like quantum physics theory and relativity and all that sort of stuff.

    Wicked stuff!

I’m going to do a study into the randomness of random numbers… it’s gonna be interesting.  Trust me!  Fun!!!

I’m going to use strange scientific terms like ‘isotopes’ in everyday language.  Just for fun!!!

  • Exact solutions on arxiv

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

As promised in my preceding post (see here), I have posted yesterday a preprint on this matter on arxiv (see here). I have presented all the exact solutions I was able to obtain at a classical level and I have given a formulation of the quantum field theory for a massless quartic theory. The key point in this case is the solution of the equation for the propagator

    -\Box\Delta+3\lambda\phi_c^2(x)\Delta=\delta^D(x)

being \phi_c the given exact classical solution. As usual, I have used a gradient approximation and the solution of the equation

    \ddot\phi(t)+3\lambda\phi_c^2(t,0)\phi(t)=\delta(t)

that I know when the phase in \phi_c(t,0) is quantized as (4n+1)K(i), being n an integer and K(i) an elliptic integral. This gives back a consistent result in the strong coupling limit, \lambda\rightarrow\infty, with my preceding paper on Physical Review D (see here).

The conclusion is rather interesting as quantum field theory, given from such subset of classical solutions, is trivial when the coupling becomes increasingly large as one has a Gaussian generating functional and the spectrum of a harmonic oscillator. This is in perfect agreement with common wisdom about this scalar theory. So, in some way, Jacobi elliptical functions that describe nonlinear wave mechanicss behave as plane wave mechanicss for a quantum field theory in a regime of a strong coupling.

♥ i have got to admit that i enjoyed it…

it was physics theory lesson..the teacher said that if anyone talked, they would have to stand throughout the lesson.that guy was talking to Jun who was angry that there was an ant in the sweet that he gave him.the teacher saw it,and asked that guy to stand up.the guy behind me wrote a note for me.when i turned around to take it,the teacher said i was talking and told me to stand up.so unfair.there i was standing next to that guy.

it was the first time that i realised that he couldnt stand still.he began strecthing and bending to touch his toes,in the middle of a lesson.i was laughing along with him.then when the lesson ended,he sat on the floor and wanted to touch his toes, but couldnt.i helped him by pulling his hand.i just realised that his hands were warm.i was so happy.

weird things always happen during physics theory lesson ♥

  • Why nothing travels faster than light !

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

I was wondering a few years back whether there was a simple explanation for what the special relativity says – that  no particle can achieve speeds greater than the speed of light.  It says that even relative velocities of particles with respect to each other cannot go beyond this limit. Well thats too much for the common sense to digest isn’t it !

But what if we actually revisit our understanding on what Speed of Light is or rather – What Light Is;  then both the above statements seem very much obvious ! ( thought I should put this as an article if ever I start blogging :)

  • Light Bulbs from DNA

Posted on July 24th, 2009 admin No comments

By adding fluorescent dyes to DNA and then spinning the DNA strands into nanofibers, researchers at the University of Connecticut have made a new material that emits bright white light. The material absorbs energy from ultraviolet light and gives off different colors of light–from blue to orange to white–depending on the proportions of dye it contains.

The researchers, led by chemistry professor Gregory Sotzing, create white-light-emitting devices by coating ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with the material. They are even able to fine-tune the white color tone to make it warm or cold, as they report in a paper published online in the journal Angewandte Chemie.

The new material could be used to make a novel type of organic light bulb. The light emitters should also be longer-lasting because DNA is a very strong polymer, Sotzing says. “It’s well beyond other polymers [in strength],” he notes, adding that it lasts 50 times longer than acrylic.

The color-tunable DNA material relies on an energy-transfer mechanism between two different fluorescent dyes. The key is to keep the dye molecules separated at a distance of 2 to 10 nanometers from each other. When UV light is shined on the material, one dye absorbs the energy and produces blue light. If the other dye molecule is at the right distance, it will absorb part of that blue-light energy and emit orange light.
